So we're clear, as Dan Savage pointed out on the Colbert Report Tuesday, old people voted in large numbers to pass Proposition 8.

I think you're correct about the movement(s) to support LGBT ballot initiatives in the community. New approaches need to be taken, and it's possible new leadership is needed in this community as it is needed in the American community at large.

I was biased because, in general, I've found people in Southern California who share my beliefs/feelings/opinions, so it was surprising to realize how many people voted in favor. Now I know I can't continue to take a demure public stance regarding my politics. Not if I really want to help change the world, make it a truly accepting place. (But a spiel regarding honoring the differences and loving equally is a generally separate issue...).
