It really is. I remember reading about a study they did once and nearly 85-90% of the children they studied said that they WOULD (not wanted to or hoped to be) but would be famous.
It was pretty insane. And yeah I could go on and on about old Disney shows. Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, etc were great because they were more real characters. But I guess kids now a days don't want that?
I mean obviously it's not going to be dealt with on a kids tv show and obviously it's not a part of everyone's life. But I think the general point is that life is very glossy and happy in these shows. I mean, even the sort of "more real" outlook on life that you had in Boy Meets World or something is missing. It dealt with drinking, cigarettes, alcohol, sex, etc and it was show on Disney at one point. I just think there's a way that those things, not all of them, but some of them, can be dealt with on a kids show. I mean, Lizzie McGuire had an ep about anorexia I believe. Disney won't touch anything anymore.
tbh, I think the reason why children today are so obsessed with becoming famous is because society has become so fame-happy. everyone cares way too much about real-life celebs. there are countless tv shows, magazines, and sites entirely devoted to them: what they do, what they say, where they go, who they date, etc. and when we put that much focus on these complete strangers, children notice. they see that everyone is fascinated by celebrities, and they get the idea that in order to get attention, they need to become famous. these tv networks realize all this is going on, and decide to manipulate it by making these types of shows. and then it eventually it just becomes an endless cycle of fame breeding media breeding the crave for fame breeding media breeding fame, and so on, until it just becomes a game of "which came first, the chicken or the egg."
sorry for the long-ass comment, no one probably read, but w.e.
Ironically, a show that explored the real lives of kid stars probably wouldn't be fun, or appropriate, for its tween viewers. Too many tax attorneys for one thing, and rehab for another. I'd watch that tbh. but disney etc wouldn't be the place for it.

God forbid they aren't dealt with on a kids show. Not to mention for plenty of people, those things aren't a part of their lives.
But the obsession with fame is beyond ridiculous.

That, and Raven's racism episode were the darkest Disney ever allowed to happen.
