I have recommended four non-fiction Age of Sail books and written reviews of them, hopefully to encourage people in the fandom who don't know much about the actual History to do some reading as well as start some kind of discussion amongst those of us who have read these books about the merits of each, and recommend others not listed

I would willingly join a David Cordingly fanclub. Not only has he written down the story of Bellerophon and officers and ship's company, so that it can be understood even by non-history buffs, but he also wrote a bio on Thomas Lord Cochrane.:D
There cannot be too much praise for NAM Rodger and his books which give such a wealth of information, detail and background info when it comes to the Age of Sail. He is a must-read for anyone interested in looking behind the stories of Marryat, Forrester, O'Brian, Kent, Stockwyn and other notable AoS writers.
I'm afraid, my recommendations would all be Aubreyad-linked. I can be so predictable. *g*
