The latest issue of the Radio Times (7th-13th Nov) has the obligatory Folio Society ad on its back cover, with a pretty-looking set of the first five Aubrey-Maturin novels, "illustrated with contemporary paintings and drawings, specially commissioned maps and battle plans":

Thanks for drawing my attention to this edition. It looks wonderful and I would love to have it. Unfortunately GBP162 is a lot of money.

162 is what you "save" - they're yours for only a tenner (and your credit card, and your firstborn child, and so on, maybe, I didn't read the small print.) They are really pushing this - there was a full-page ad on the back of the Guardian books section last week.

...and I think their offer is only applicable in the UK? ;D Anyway, I already have the Aubreyad in six different editions (hardcover, paperback, omnibus, French, German and on my hard drive), I think, another one will be a bit excessive...though it does look good...

I think that would take you beyond the point of "excessive" and into "collector". Totally different. It is a good-looking binding. I'm afraid you can't see it very well in my rubbishy photo; I had no scanner to hand.
