This was the first year I really followed the Olympics. I've certainly been aware of them before, and watched some events when they happened to be on, but I couldn't tell you anything about them now. I've felt that way ever since Hillary and Obama became the front runners. Like many people, I'm kinda bummed about the dream of a woman president being pushed into the future again, but Barack is pretty exciting as well. Hell, any body left of center has my vote at this point. But I loved Hillary's speech this week. And it actually brought me to tears while I was driving when I heard her call for the up/down vote from the floor to make Obama the nominee. Ok, I realize that it's all political calculation that was worked out ahead of time, but it was damn classy. Just cause it's theatre doesn't mean it's not moving.

I think that ever since 9/11, our nation has been under a dark cloud for a number of reasons. And I think that the pendulum is swinging back again as we take back our national destiny. (God, I sound like one of them.)

I desperately want winds of change.

but i am afraid that the fearfull and greedy will outnumber the unhappy and hopefull on Nov. 4.

I have long held to the George Carlin equation of American politics:

Selfish Ignorant Citizens = Selfish Ignorant Leaders.

but maybe we can do better.
