So, thanks to beebarf I was able to make my very own Dalek dishcloth/washtowel! I used this pattern... and I totally stole this post's subject line from there, too. ^^U
I think I've only encountered wool yarn (or synthetic?) so I was vastly confused, like what? why would you wet yarn?! (Because it'd shrink, but I'm guessing cotton yarn doesn't.)
Yeah, well, what with the Daleks being murderous, evil creatures intent on universal destruction (and living inside battle armour curiosly shaped like a pepper pot), I somehow didn't think pastel colours would suit them. XD
As for the TARDIS, well, there's a reason they call it a "blue box". ^^UU
It is quite a catchy title, isn't it? I had this metallic voice screaming "EXFOLIATE!" in my mind the whole time I was knitting it... XD
Hey, I used to think the same thing! I've only started knitting last year, and the TARDIS washcloth is perfect for a first project... you just need some cotton yarn, a pair of US size 6 needles (or 4 mm, in Argentina), an evening free... and presto! I can point you to some very nice knitting video tutorials, if you wish. Knitting is easier than it looks! :)
(just ask me what the corrections in the pattern are if you want to make this. There are a couple of mistakes in the pattern that a beginner won't notice until it's too late)
Oh, thanks! I thought your name was familiar, too... Well, now you're on my journal, so feel free to look around. ^__^
I wonder if I could make some xxxholic-themed knitties...?
Hey there's a dalek-along going, did you know? Here's the thread on the tiny forum on Ravelry where the thing is happening. Join in, show the group your pictures! I'm yummyyarnbc.
Hm, the Extermiknit! is a bit beyond my abilities right now, as I haven't started knitting in the round yet (and right now I can't afford a new set of needles to start), but that sure looks interesting...
Man. I want to have knitting buddies to knit with. I'm the only one who knits in my RL circle, and I haven't made a circle of knitting friends online yet. :/
I think dishcloths are welcome in the dalek-along - it's just fannish knitters having fun. And one of the knitters is learning to knit, on this project. It's a bit of an ambitious move, to be certain, but cruentum/cyus is nothing if not ambitious. So - you could join. Everyone would be nice

I'll get a more in-depth look as soon as I can, then. :3
Eh, I can understand ambitious. Heck, I picked "Brooke's Column of Leaves" as my second ever project, so I can sympathize. I've never cursed as much as I did while learning that pattern, but after I finished that blasted scarf, I definitely felt like I knew how to knit, and wasn't just clumsily copying what the big girls where doing. I've still got a long way to go and many skills to learn, but I can defend myself with my 4mm needles and a ball of yarn in hand. :)
I knit, I teach knitting, I dye and spin yarn as a business, and just for the over the top kicker, I have three colourways in TW/Whoverse colours - a Ianto, a "Bordering on the Avant Garde" and a Tardis.
Ooooh! *__*
Spinning and dying yarn is a mystery to me... but I was foster mother to a lamb for about a week, does that count? XD

Thanks! These were really easy to make, and very quick! I made them both the same evening, while listening to old Doctor Who audio dramas. :3
