books/movies/dramas lists

Dec 31, 2009 11:59

One of my goals this year is to read 25 books. Which isn't a whole lot, but probably more than I would read otherwise (I may be over optimistic). The list is likely to change, but so I remember...

The Book List
  1. The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
  2. First Meetings by Orson Scott Card
  3. Fear of Small Numbers by Arjun Appadurai
  4. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
  5. The ( Read more... )

movies, short film, manga, books

i'm on a break from murakami, though maybe i'll go back later in the year (i started wild sheep chase and can't seem to pick it up again). i think i overdosed on his work a little too much last year XP

i'll look into good omens though. (: thank you!

aw, norwegian wood is probably his best piece, too :( well if you get the chance, look into it! i understand overdosing on him though, i did that with the wind-up bird chronicle. yikes.

also, dhalgren by samuel r. delany if you're looking for a heavy scifi read. AWESOME book.

good omens sounds like a good read! :D

ah thats what i hear a lot. i tend to like murakami's short stories, though i really liked the wind up bird. i wasn't a fan of his recent book, after dark which i think began to kill it for me..
hopefully i'll get over my OD and read norwegian though..

i'll have to look into dhalgren too (:
have you read any of the ender's books?

hey, I'm reading Lolita right now too.
How do you like it? Fan of Humbert Humbert?

Humbert Humbert is an interesting guy. I really love the way it's written; it's hard to believe English is Nabokov's second language. Some lines I think are sort of hilarious though ('the scepter of my passion...' XP Maybe I'm just immature.
How do you like it? (:

We Malaysians never missed Anthony Burgess' maybe because of The Long Day Wanes he wrote..but anyway its good that reading is part of someone's goals(you!)..I dont read book nowadays because my last attempt of reading and understanding James Joyce's Ulysses failed miserably..just for the sake of finishing it haha..I thought I was going crazy..:p

*where can we read pieces of you?
*EAP's the masque of the red death is my personal fav ss

What is The Long Day Wanes about? (lol I'll google it)

I think I might have to buy Pieces of You. Unless some crazy fan puts the whole thing online. I sort of want to hear reviews about it first though. I read a snippet of the first page or something and it seems interesting. lol there's illustrations in it an its only like 200 pages..

I'll have to look into The Masque of the Read Death (:

fans are crazy so we're gonna get it online im sure..sometimes its the attitude of wanting to be ahead of everyone that cause ppl to post stuff online asap..will read it first and if its really good, i'll purchase it..just like what we do to online music and cDs Lol..

The Masque of the Red Death, hm perhaps im the only one who seem to enj0y the fate of Prospero :p

btw, do recommend sthg to me should any book above really worth reading..:)

True. It seems kind of messed up to put a whole book online, but I guess people do it with music too =P

I'll probably be writing what I think about the books (or at least some of them) as I finish them.
I recommend Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card though. I'm trying to make everyone I know read it (or at least the ones who like to read). It's sci-fi but I haven't met anyone who didn't like it at all yet. (:
