That was very moving. Poor Frodo! The last image is achingly beautiful. Thank you for sharing this story. It is sad, but Frodo and Sam are reunited at last.

Ow, thank you so much! I was inspired by Elenya, who said that Tolkien had toyed with the idea of having Sam plunging in the fire with Gollum to destroy the Ring. I wondered how could Frodo react to such a tragical ending.

Oh gosh, Anwise, that was heart-breaking, but somehow it couldn't have ended any other way. And one of the ideas Tolkien had originally for the end of the story was Sam sacrificing himself to destroy the ring. I'm very sure Frodo could never have survived his guilt for that, so perhaps it's better that he go with Sam so that they are together forever. Very beautifully written and imagined. I'm sure it was tough to write!!! *hugs you*

Yeah, I had read about Tolkien's hesitation to end LOTR this way, that's what inspired me. Frodo could certainly not have survived it :(
