Thanks for the recommendation! I have picked up the book at least thrice and each time, I was just too intimidated by the size to even start.

That's like saying this city has 9,458,321 crows.

Eh?

No, but 591552 is not a random figure. You know, people have soft copies of books and they do a Word Count in MS Word. :)

Quite an elaborate recommendation, that!

This is one of those books which are thick enough to make you wish they were published in parts.

Oh yes! I have always believed that I would have found LotR easier to read if I had the edition that comes as three different books.

However, H2G2 was one book that I would not put in this category.

Yup, I love the index. I go back to it all the time as well. Right now, I am reading

The size of the book always turned me off when I considered reading it. But now, with your gushing review, my curiosity is piqued...

That was a very well-written plug.

I loved the book. I spent most of two weeks immersed in it (at the end of which I had rippling arm muscles). I particularly enjoyed the parts about the musicians. And of course, the Kakoli couplets.

Yes, there are so many different arenas Seth takes you to; as I said, one is bound to find something or the other of extreme interest. For example, I found the Brahampur politics scene a bit tedious but the dynamics of the Nawab's family make a great reading.

Nice to see you here. :)
