Which is the exact opposite of the last Breeders album. I thought it was lackluster (songwriting wise, but it sounded incredible thanks to Albini) but when I saw them do those songs live, the were great....
Wolf Eyes are sometimes okay on record, but largely kinda dull, but they kick ass live. I think that probably holds true for a lot of noise stuff though.
While I would agree on the Wolf Eyes front, I am not sure I could get behind the generalization there. Mostly because I listen to a lot of noise stuff. Some notable exceptions that I like on record would be Lightning Bolt, Melt Banana, that noisy Melvins album, afrirampo, Throbbing Gristle...
I was referring to more straight ahead NOISE, rather than noisy rock, metal, hip-hop, etc, of which I like a lot on record. Cock ESP is primarily a live experience, for example, though Dalek rules in either format.
right. I guess maybe we put Wolf Eyes in different categories then. My frame of reference was off.
Put it that way and I guess I agree with you. Most of the straight Noise stuff I listen to on album probably falls more into the ambient side of the straight noise spectrum.
And no, I'm not talking about the "Sounds of nature" CDs you get at Target....
