I was only in the Corps for my fish year, the toughest year. The Corps was a massive departure from my previous ROTC experiece at UTA. Though I gained some much-needed discipline, and learned a lot about myself and increased my pain threshold as well as as my strength, dexterity and stamina. The Corps seemed more concered with A&M customs and traditions rather than the branch our outfit represented. By the time I was done w/ my frick year I was burned out and sick of school spirit.
My first year of ROTC I got to do all sorts of cool shit ranging from rapeling to qualifying with an M-16 to full-blown weekends in the field complete with MILES gear, face cammo, and MRE's versus getting yelled at and PT'd by Sophomores.
That was another thing. At UTA the only cadets I called 'sir' or 'ma'am' were seniors, and some juniors. at A&M I had to cowtow to punters my own age; I didn't like that too much.
