Jack the Ripper wannabe busted by Berlin police

The BBC is reporting that the prime suspect in the stabbing death and dismemberment of Jun Lin, an exchange student in Montreal, is under arrest in Berlin. The lame-ass wannabe criminal mastermind was recognised by the proprietor of a cybercafe in the city and promptly reported to the authorities ( Read more... )

What is it with people in Montreal killing for the infamy? Wasn't that one of the things the École Polytechnique massacre perpetrator had in mind, too?

I suspect if we dug into old editions of the NYTimes or the Chicago Tribune we'd find plenty of similar cases. (Edge cases being easier to find when sample sets get large enough.) And digging through the Montreal Gazette would turn up plenty of other homicides for the more usual reasons of greed, pride, jealousy, etc.

-- Steve thinks this character might've benefited from some time in the justice system (particularly with a prison pshrink) after those kitten-killing vids.
