an entrepeneur in India the Indian government has unveiled a low-cost touchscreen tablet with a starting price of $35. The savings come from using open-source software and paring the functions down to an absolute minimum; for instance, there is no hard drive included but instead a slot for "mobile phone" (micro-SD?) memory cards

Four-function calculators cost early adopters several hundred dollars. I think I paid $50 for mine. I recently bought one with way more functions for a dollar.
