In the UK we had 4 channels. Two of the channels BBC1 and BBC2 would sign off with the national anthem (God Save the Queen) and then we'd have this test card.

That so reminds me of the time when my son was a teenager and asked me...what did you do before cable television or vcrs? How did you get by with only 13 channels?

I just replied "Gilligan re-runs, my dear!" Heehee!

I do this all the time with my kids. It's important they know that things are not free.

We had two tv channels and even then my parents had a lock on the tv that they only opened after 6pm.

And yes, my parents told me all about the time when they got one sqaure of chocolate for Christmas!

And I vividly remember my mother telling me that God only grants you wishes that are good for you - like an orange!
