There's something about little spoons -- the ones you get as a tourist when you travel -- the ones the Dutch call lepeltjes (little lepels, of course) -- the ones Williams-Sonoma call espresso spoons -- that cheers me. Funny, I never noticed lepeltjes on sale as ornaments when I worked in Amsterdam, but they must have been around. Here in Wales the speciality is Celtic "love spoons". They're pretty but - my! - are they not cheap! Here's a link.

However, they do sell wooden ones too. Some of those aren't cheap either, but shopping around you can sometimes get lucky.

I love that you're actually using these spoons. I can't stand the thinking that, if something's pretty, it's too nice to use because it might get worn out. That, and I can't stand dustcatchers. This way you get something pretty AND the use of it.

Huh. I never realized one could use those tiny souvenir spoons....or maybe I'm thinking of different ones. (Or maybe they make them in different sizes in Europe?)
