Although I'm relieved that I was not laid off today, it still stings to hear about the partners that are leaving the company. As of now, no one on my immediate team was let go. However, there is more work ahead for me as our group did some restructuring. I know it's a necessary part of removing the fat and becoming "nimble" but at the same time, I ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear about all of this. :( That's about all I can offer, other than "been there, done that"--on basically all of the above, unfortunately.

I'm sending you best wishes. I'm so sorry that things are tough right now.

Since I'm finally graduating, I'm looking for work right now and it's just scary. Seeing what's happening to your company is just depressing. Especially since it's a place that many people have told me in the past was a great place to work.

Happy and relieved to hear you're not on the chopping block! I think every successful company reaches this point at some time, though, and it's never pleasant. It's all "just business" but understandably it's very personal to everyone in the company.

I think I know who you're talking about, the cow hosting the party. Don't let her ruin your visit with your mentor, you're not obligated to shmooze with her at all and I'll bet nobody expects you to. Just toss her a salt lick and enjoy the rest of the party.

The last-grandparent thing has crossed my mind recently too, my grandmother being the last... It's hard to process what comes down the line next, but I think it helps a little to at least be aware of it and acknowledge it as part of life. Doesn't mean you have to be happy about it, but simply being aware of it is important (and it's probably more than most people do). Soon it will be our turn...how's that for a happy thought? :)
