I've had people not really come up with legitimate defenses of yaoi outside of "the rape in it is a fantasy. fantasies aren't supposed to reflect reality." I think this is bullshit. Actually, one of the points I've brought up with 50 Shades a couple times now is that it seems like it's trying to do what Yaoi's done already many times.

Yeah, reading Ket an Gehayi's sporking of the thing, it really surprises me just how similar it is to a yaoi. Not just the whole rape, homophobia, and misogyny thing, but also the way it's lazily written and is basically porn without plot. Also, they and most yaoi would be just flat out boring if it weren't for the porn, and even then I'd find it boring because it's bad porn (Imo) and the only thing that keeps me interested in it (like seeing a train crash) is because of the rape, misogyny, etc.
