the power of negative thinking

I've really been slacking on running lately. Between having to write my midterm assessment, being exhausted by the end of the day, and the BORING longer distances that training for a 10-mile race requires, I haven't had much opportunity and even less interest in maintaining it. Which really sucks, because I was so gung-ho 3 months ago, back when ( Read more... )

Let's see what we can do.

We'll walk through all water stations. We can walk a 1/10th of a mile every mile if you want. Or we can run three miles and then walk 1 minute (that's what I did for my marathon training and it really helped). They key is to go into it with a plan so that you know when your walk breaks are and you don't just start walking willy nilly. That's when you end up just walking for the hell of it.

Although, if we have to walk for the hell of it that's what we'll do. You'll go 10 miles come hell or high water. I promise :-)

And OF COURSE we'll have a good time. I'm actually really excited that the race is on Saturday because that means we can drink beer (!) and eat like crap on Saturday night and not worry about the consequences.

I like the run 3 walk 1 min idea because then I still get good-sized chunks of running in, and I don't have a time goal that walking an extra 3 minutes out of almost 2 hours will destroy. I can make my little 10 oz of water last 8 mi (providing I remember to close the mouthpiece, so maybe skipping a water stop wouldn't be terrible. Planning is novel but I will try it, because randomly walking is what defeats me.

YES! ME TOO! I really look forward to the official Earned Lazing Around & Eat-a-thon that I was sad we had to skip last year -- I'm really looking to sharing the celebration. I have some ideas, including Melt Bar & Grilled (which is the definition of "excess," but tastily so -- it's the place that was featured on "Man vs. Food") and B Spot which has AWESOME burgers and a $5 milkshake that is really worth $5. Or we could just hit the West Side Market on the way back and get a big-ass gyro like ( ... )
