It was requested that I explain the renovation to our house. I've put it off till this point because whenever I think about it, I give an autonomic resigned sigh, like Kif from Futurama: uhghThe exterior wall to our back entry was uninsulated this past winter and thus made that part of the house very, very cold. Oh the joys of home improvement. Never goes quite as easily or quickly as we dream.

At this point I'm kind of not minding renting...we'll see how I feel this winter. Our house has very little insulation, too.

Yeah, the nice thing about renting is definitely the not having to take responsibility for fixing things, but then I remembered how much we had to badger and poke and demand that our maintenance guy (a nice guy, just not always on the ball) come and fix things (writing letters with phrases like "hazard to health and general safety" always worked in a pinch), and I realize that I prefer to handle home repairs on my own terms. Plus I like not having to get irritated both at the problem and at the lack of response -- if there's a lack of response, it's my lack of response, and I'm generally OK with that one.

I'm turning into a control freak, who knew :) Anyway, this means we'll have to repair/redo the bathroom balcony, which pleases me a little (projected costs and work aside) because I'd like to renovate it to a real sleeping porch, with screens and maybe even a cat door.
