Did anyone but me notice in the Insubordination chapter of Brisingr, where Roran does his massive body count of kills, that the Varden charged into the village on horseback?

No wonder they were slaughtered.

All I can think of is the bandits being utterly annihilated in the Seven Samurai when they do the same thing.

I was too busy going "WTF?!" at the body count. Seriously, in my medieval combat game (Mount & Blade, quite fun) when I cheat and have damage reduction on I can usually only get 50 or so guys (if I'm mounted and they are not on flat ground) before someone pokes me and my pony to death. On foot it's more like 20- if I'm doing a good job and there aren't archers shooting arrows through my skull.
Yeah, yeah, video game =/= actual combat, but it's usually the video games that exaggerate. o_O

the guy was protected by magic apparently. That could explain why he got only few injuries. It was a ridiculus number anyway. In truth, Roran could not have been able to beat Guts own record( around 100) from Berserk!!!

I remember getting a Roran flashback when I was watching Apocalypto the other day. Heroes always play with cheat codes.

I know nothing of military strategy. Could someone clue me in as to why charging on horseback is bad? It worked in Lord of the Rings...

I feel like doing one of the tortoise things like the Romans did would've been more effective.
Though I'm no like, tactical anything.
