As some wag at Birkbeck pointed out earlier this evening, it's currently like that old cathode ray tube television sat in the corner of the room - doing naff all, except sucking the lifeblood out of the planet's energy resources:
1. sometimes being in a union is like being a vegetarian. It'd be fine except for all the other eejits who're doing it too.
2. Bonus points to the Guardian's early coverage: http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2011/mar/20/lecturers-strike-over-pensions-pay?CMP=twt_gu for a. illustrating it with a photo of an anti-fees demo which was nothing AT ALL to do with the UCU, b. not understanding the difference between a public and private pension, c. getting the current retirement age wrong, d. etc etc etc.
The subsite finally went live shortly after that post. On the evidence of the first few pages it's going to save Her Majesty's Constabulary quite a bit of legwork in updating the PNC with names and photographs of potential troublemakers.
