Heads up! Tonight 8pm, channel 5, a two-parter on Queen Hatshepsut, the down side is it's hosted by your least favourite Egyptologist.

I know. I couldn't face watching it in the end - for precisely that reason.

The trouble is, a few weeks ago I forced m'self to watch an episode of his U.S.-produced "reality" show, Chasing Mummies. An almost unbelievably bad showcase for his ego, with the most absurdly contrived points of artificial "drama" I've ever seen. (Members of the U.S. contingent of second-rate archaeologists allegedly overrun their alloted time at a dig site. Cue a staged panicky 'phone call to the Big H, who's at - quelle surprise - some fucking book signing in Cairo, and what amounts to a shaky-cam car chase through the streets en route, throughout which our denim shirt-clad "hero" constantly, and rudely, berates the poor sods who have been roped into this fiasco.) The production team should be ashamed of themselves, and Hawass deserves to fall down a very dark hole, with no hope of recovery. The man's a menace.
