THE CLEARING HOUSE

A 2-to-Quango Online Novel

Monday 08:02

The conference rooms on each floor of the building must’ve looked good on paper at the design stage.  Too good, in all probability, because their realization coincided with the final cost-cutting push of the outgoing Conservative administration in ’97, and the young Turks of the New ( Read more... )

Finally read the available parts. One of the reasons why I postponed it was because I knew that it was inevitable that I'd be disappointed there isn't more since I naturally want to read the whole thing in one go. :)
I now have "quango" added to my passive vocabulary. ;)

Does the "TIDY" service exist for organisations like that?

Regarding the time line of parts one and two. Because I'm now somewhat familiar with parts of London I automatically look up the places you mention. You're probably only in the early stages of writing this, so I don't know if I should mention it, but I think the tube ride alone from Ealing Broadway to Westminster takes longer than the difference between the times mentioned at the start of parts one and two. :)

Hiya. I think there's some background on TIDY coming up in the next couple of parts, but - as with many aspects of the narrative - it's really a leg-pulling joke at the expense of the "dumbing down" culture which infected the SIS at the turn of this century. (Clue: It's easier to remember, and press on a mobile 'phone keypad, than "Housekeeping". It's also a fairly crude acronym, much beloved of certain associates, but I'll hold that back for now. *G*)

You're quite right about the time compression (the District Line journey actually takes an average of around twenty six minutes outside peak times), and it's a direct result of my padding out the unused shooting script converting between media. ;o)
