I am a trifle (shock horror) inclined to defend him on that last one (descriptivism + genetic fallacy and all that)
Of course that fact that he can't hear us over THE SOUND OF ALL HIS MONEY is the bit that rankles most.

There comes a point, now known as "the Rowling measure", at which literary criticism (however valid and vital for the presumed betterment of the form) is made redundant by an author's earning capacity.

I just miss Michael Crichton. He used to churn this sort of poo out with so much more style.
