If they’ve got anything in common, it’s their immaculate ability to downplay reality. She doesn’t care for him anymore than he does for her, but hands trace scars on her thighs (we all have enemies, she whispers) and they find a temporary escape from this hell.
We’re as dead as doornails, Frank grumbles the only dose of certainty they’ve encountered in days, but Ilana’s determined to remain in this dream for as long as possible, this calm before the storm.
He can’t fly her off this rock (girl’s got her own wings now, he thinks after everything’s been said and done) but sure as hell doesn’t regret trying.
