This makes me so sad. Bonobos are my favorite primate :( They are fascinating to watch.

Oh. Sure AP service. let's blame the BUSH MEAT TRADE for the dissappearance. Not say: loss of habitat, or maybe even global starvation that forces people to eat animals they would not normally choose...

This article really ticked me off by addressing only this side of the issue.

The factors you've mentioned fuel the bush meat trade, along with population increase and war. The meat trade is not a separate entity, but very much a part of all the other factors.

"Our ancestors have been eating bonobos for centuries. How could they disappear?" Ipaka said.

What a brain bender! And just today I ran out of milk-how could that be? I've been drinking from that carton all week.

Ipaka went on to explain, "No, look: they do grow on trees!"

Shit, another one!

"What can we do if bonobo meat is tasty?" Kanyamba said.

I know I didn't write that paper, professor, but Ninja Gaiden Black is really fun. What was I supposed to do?

But if any one of you primatology or conservation majors don't graduate with the most respectable of marks (or don't manage to graduate at all), cheer up: Congo doesn't turn anyone down!
