I'd be interested in knowing who your key theorists are for your thesis? Anyone you find particularly enthralling? I'm also doing self and identity... well, who isn't these days really? :P

So far I've pretty much been reading everything I've come across on identity or identity and culture on the internet, so it's not very focussed. Goffman's 'Presentation of Self in Everyday Life' was pretty interesting and gave me lots of ideas about identity presentation, and David Crystal's 'Language and the Internet' was very interesting. I also looked at Nakamura's stuff on race in the online environment, and various works on gender, and read a couple of intersting articles by Donath. I'm starting to look in to symbolic interactionism and the things that have been written about identity in relation to it, and that looks like it's going to be very interesting.

What are you studying about self and identity?
