Yet another student survey.

I'm doing a survey on genital cutting and modification for -- of all classes -- French. It is not your typical "Do you think FGM is bad" survey, I promise! I tried to be more comprehensive and cover as many sides of the subject as I could with a 10 question limit. Sadly, I had to leave out demographic questions, which pretty much kills the worth ( Read more... )

I think posting a survey like this on an Anthropology website is going to give very different results than you would get from other places.

Yep, that's the point. =) I've posted the link a few other places as well, where people don't know much about genital modification.

I don't get it. Do you have a tracker that tells you which survey came from which original location? For example, are some of the survey results flagged as being from an anthropology community and some are flagged as being from somewhere else? Otherwise, unless you have separate surveys or something, I'm not sure how you're going to be able to tell whether or not the results will be different.

I won't be able to tell. I just wanted a more varied sample demographic. This isn't a serious, my-final-thesis-depends-on-it survey. Its for a French class.

Thanks, I've filled it in. A technical note - if you can still change it, you need to put buttons for the "other" option as well as a place to write. It told me that I had left the relevant question unanswered.

Did it, and I'm from Switzerland. In case that's errr, of any relevance. I've never seen a circumcised penis before. I know of two Jewish guys, though, so maybe that counts.

That's awesome. I was hoping to get some non-North American responses. For the record, if you were to see their penises, you'd be mighty glad you weren't circumcized. ;)

I need to find some porn picture with a circumcised guy, 'cause now I'm really wondering...

Stepping out of the amateur anthropologist role for a moment . . .

On average, circumcised guys are smaller than uncircumcised guys, and the head is usually scarred or deformed somehow (since it is not meant to be exposed naturally in a flaccid state, and circumcision forces its exposure.) From what I know of personal experience and what I've read in research, the exposed head is far less sensitive because of the tougher skin it must build up to protect itself.

Because the first question in your survey is required to choose one the provided answers, gears the surveyor and does not allow an individual answer. It also leaves out the possibilty of someone having the knowledge and/or believing that the definition of a circumcision can include both removals on female and male genitalia. Will this flaw corrupt the purity or your survey?

The first question allows for multiple answers.

Yes. I don't deny that, but it seems to steer the surveyor with it being required to select, thus not accepting a personal answer in the "other" category; especially when none of the other questions I answered are accepted if I do not choose one the preselected multiple choice in the first question. All I am trying to say is that another option should entered or the first question should allow my personal answer in the "other" category. Or this should be divided into two separate surveys with those who think circumcision is defined with only men in mind or women.
