A sexy swing of the hips may attract admiring glances, but it is not a covert sign a woman is ready to breed, according to researchers

"He said it was in a woman's best interests to form a closer attachment to one man to help raise children, rather than to advertise her fertile time and be approached by a larger number of competing males.
He said: "I think that the subtle signs of ovulation are used, in a sense, to promote monogamy."
Oh really?
The problem is that his explanation for monogamy falls down if you look at some of the recent biopsychology studies.
More likely, the extra "oomph" in the walk is to keep other males interested during the non-fertile time so she seems available and then decreases with the most fertile period because that's when SHE is most likely to initiate sexual activity with whomever she finds most attractive...
...social partner or not.
So, in a way, it can be more of an indicator of polygamy, specifically polyandry, and evidence of an intersexual competition adaptation in a closely knit social group.
Ms Provost said: "If women are trying to protect themselves from sexual assault at times of peak fertility, it would make sense for them to advertise attractiveness on a broad scale when they are not fertile."
...As opposed to being sexually assaulted at any other time of their cycle...? If females wanted to detract sexual attention from themselves, then it would make sense that they might deliberately avoid a sexy walk. Exhibiting sexual body language when they are non-fertile, however, makes no sense in terms of it being a guarantee that they would NOT receive sexual attention while fertile. Why wouldn't females just move as unappealingly as possible, all the time? That's like saying that walking down backalleys with a MUG ME sign around your neck and nothing of value in your purse will make it less likely that you will be assaulted when you finally go out, inconspicously and with a credit card in each pocket.
how come it never occurs to anyone that people aren't trying to be sexy at any given moment (even at an unconscious or supposedly programmed level), and that it just happens that freedom and health are programmed to others as being sexy? When hormone levels are lower, maybe the gait is more natural and healthy thats that. Or maybe the way we are at a more even hormone level shows whether we are a fit mate or not.
The study is interesting, especially considering that the results are opposite of what was predicted. However, I personally view this as a example of sloppy and sensationalist scientific journalism. Too much time is spent spinning unsupported theories, not enough time is spent discussing facts.

Whatever the studies data, the conclusions need to be rethought.
