My boyfriend's last name is "Garza". He's half-Mexican, half-white, and I'm white. When we first discussed marriage he insisted that he take my last name (Andrews), because he saw the prejudice his (white) mother experienced by having a Mexican last name, and didn't want me to have to deal with that. He worries that it would hurt my career. Unfortunately, I hate my last name, and have always wanted to get it changed to my mother's maiden name.

You could always do what we did, and *both* change to a mother's maiden name :)
