Nov 22, 2006 - ISTANBUL (Reuters) - A lavishly illustrated "Atlas of Creation" is mysteriously turning up at schools and libraries in Turkey, proclaiming that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution is the real root of terrorism.

I'd like to see these pictures, though. Must be spectacular. I visited his website, but I don't know if I saw any images from the book. How does one know that 99% of fossils on Earth have been unearthed?

Evolution was a non-issue in Turkey until fairly recently. The Koran does indeed follow the six-day creation story, but states elsewhere that a day for God can be an unimaginable time for humans, so there's no inherent conflict with evolution. Some medieval Sufi texts seem to come out in favour of evolution, but then we should be careful about finding parallels between medieval and modern thought. What I find funny is the way Muslim pseudo-intellectuals here are aping (if you'll forgive the metaphor) their counterparts in Christendom.
