I don't think it sounds terrible that you believe you may have found a way to manage grief, I think its a very positive thing and shows that you have actually been grieving, rather than blocking it. And its possible that was yet another thing that Denise inspired in you. It seems that you are honouring the memories of various people in entirely appropriate ways for each of them.
Its been 14 years since my mum died and this year I was so caught up in my life that I forgot the anniversary of her death recently. I'm glad you didn't worry about it and I think you totally did the right thing. I'd just add one thing - she would want you to be happy.
There's nothing terrible about learning how to manage grief. It's a natural psychological process like any other and changes nothing of how you actually feel about the person you have lost. Of course you did the right thing x
