I've always worked through difficult questions by talking to myself, holding a conversation with a non-existant other (who is also me - I don't have an imaginary friend or believe there is actually someone else there.) "Slay the Dragon?" Dangnammit I've been doing it wrong all these years! I always thought it was Save the Dragon. [I almost have the whole set too!].

The archetype of the Mother (and I am talking about Smoog here), to nuture and care is an important one, but it is also a transitory one. A real Mother know that will be a time when the children leave the nest. Combine that with the archtypical Warrior whose job is to slay the monsters threatening the Youth and Innocent (even if one does so with a Laugh and a Smile rather than a Sword), and you are likely to get a Warden who imprisons his charges. To keep them safe. That's the problem with the Shadow Archetypes - they are so seductive because they are the true Archetypes misapplied.

[And I'm probably indulging in the Sorceror here with False Naming, rather than the Wizard with True Naming. But then I am a Fool and the difference between a Fool and a Jester isn't very big - just the person on whom the joke is played ( ... )
