Thanks! I adore Anne Bishop's Black Jewels universe. Which is sort of obvious here. Have you read, "The Invisible Ring"?

Yeah, they're definitely on the list of 'Great Books I Don't Want My Mother to Know I'm Reading". When a man gets eaten alive by rats in the first chapter . . .
Not pretty.

You should really look for 'Invisible Ring', though. It's a little lighter than the actual trilogy, partiall because the main character wears the Red-jeweled Warlord, not a Black-jeweled Warlord-Prince. But it's still decadent and vicious and beautiful, like everything in the universe.
