Izuru wasn’t much of a problem solver. He could avoid them-probably better than anyone could-but when landed with one, he just couldn’t seem to find the right solution out of it quickly.
A lot of it probably came from his upbringing. He was polite and soft-spoken, brought up in the ways of nobility; educated, refined, well-read, but used to leaving his problems in more capable hands. Much more capable hands.
But he doubted he could do that this time because Hisagi Shuuhei was a different story, an enigma that Izuru would rather die than ask for his family’s assistance to work out. Something about the older student drew Izuru like a moth to a flame and he doubted it was in a way that his family would approve of.
There was a certain appeal to Hisagi Shuuhei that didn’t have anything to do with his good looks, though, as loathe as Izuru is to admit it, the fact that he was astonishingly handsome did help a lot. No, what drew Izuru to the sixth rounder the most was how opposite they both were-how it started out as a barrier between them but then became a bond that brought them closer together.
The sixth rounder was confident and assertive; candid the way Izuru was taught not to be, never afraid to say what he thought or to follow his instinct-a trait Izuru disapproved of at first but had come quickly to respect. It worried yet fascinated Izuru, how different they were, how honest and sure Hisagi could be about himself. You always knew where you stood with him; whether you were his friend or foe, and whether he liked you or not…which was the biggest problem of all.
Because Hisagi Shuuhei liked Izuru. He liked Izuru a lot. The way Izuru’s family would not approve of.
And what made it a bigger problem was that Izuru thought he just might like Hisagi, too.
