“Way of binding…Sai!”
Kira didn’t think he would ever forget the way those words would make his heart clench in fear as his body seized up, his arms locking behind his back and his knees landing hard on the wooden floor at his Captain’s feet…
…didn’t think he would ever forget how it had started only months after he made Vice-Captain of the Third Squad. How he had wondered why, on the first night after shattering the most basic of all binding spells, his Captain had told him, smiling that wily smile of his, to work on freeing himself faster.
“No tellin’ what someone will do to you when yer lyin’ helpless like that.” Ichimaru had said.
No telling indeed.
The fox-faced liar.
The second time around he had been too slow, the friction of the wall on his back and the warm tongue invading his mouth making it hard to concentrate. In his alarm he had released too much reiatsu, the excess coupled with the force of the shattered spell blowing out the few lamps illuminating Ichimaru’s private chambers.
He swallowed hard under the gaze of his Captain who only smiled, his intense red eyes gleaming in the darkness.
After that, the spells got stronger and stronger, each one harder to break than the last. He didn’t think he would ever forget how he eventually ended up limping out of Ichimaru’s private chambers the morning after one of their more intense “exercises”, as his captain so maliciously put it.
Was there no limit to the strength of this man’s kidou?! Kira wondered as he found himself caught in a binding spell so strong he couldn’t even scream as Ichimaru forced himself on his Vice-Captain, couldn’t even look away from that wicked, red stare.
And even in the light of day when Ichimaru usually left him alone and he’d be trying his best to erase the nights before from his mind, he could feel a different sort of bind around his body, particularly around his throat like tendrils of smoke slithering over his skin attempting to suffocate him.
Chains that no one else could see.
Tightening with each heavy step.
By this time, Ichimaru didn’t even need to use his kidou as the fight seemed to have left Kira’s body completely. He was tired and he submitted.
Gave up.
He didn’t think he would ever forget how his Captain complained about that.
Didn’t think he would ever forget how that didn’t stop him anyway.
Then the years passed slowly, so agonizingly slow, only to lead to the day the farce he called his life turned inside out and his whole world shattered from under his feet. The day his Captain had exposed himself as a traitor to all Kira knew.
And as he sat there, slumped against the wall listening to the sound Matsumoto’s fading flashsteps, he didn’t feel the injuries she had inflicted on him. Didn’t feel the dull aches he had inflicted on him the night before in his cell.
He sat unmoved by the sudden flood of negative reiatsu, feeling only his Captain’s spirit force slowly fade away until it had completely vanished.
He didn’t think he would ever forget how he had felt that day. Didn’t think he would ever forget the shock.
The relief.
And in the end, even as he lay sobbing in the security of Shuuhei’s arms after one the more terrifying nightmares in the bed they now shared, Kira didn’t think he would ever forget any of that.
Didn’t think he would ever be free.
END.
