Something traditional...

...for St David's Day.

Two Welsh blokes reciting Welsh poetry to each other in Welsh on a beach...in Santa Monica. I have no idea either. This is a very odd video, from the long defunct IoanOnline site, but it never fails to make me smile. The poetry is lovely and the boys aren't bad either ;)

IG must love this poem. I have him on my phone reading it, from that coastal poetry thing a while back.

He apparently wanders coastways, reciting love poems. Maybe the poem makes him think of home.

Yes, you're right! This does seem to be one of his favourites doesn't it? I'm not surprised, it's a lovely poem :)

Poetry and coasts do seem to have an affinity, although this particular poem does seem to be rather out of place on this particular coast!

I was 12 when I learned this poem for our school eisteddfod - and I come from the most anglophone part of the country:)
I think of it as a rite of passage for all Welsh kids - after all most of us were born by or grew up by the sea ( not many large towns inland in Wales !!)
and in the chapel and music culture that many of us - including Ioan- were raised in reading poetry loud was normal.

thoough I agree that the bards did not really have Santa Monica in mind.

It's distinctly odd seeing this transposed to Santa Monica isn't it?!
