Tonight marks the anniversary of the Droits de L’Homme engagement when Captains Sir Edward Pellew and Robert Carthew Reynolds in the frigates Indefatigable and Amazon took on Commodore Raymond de Lacrosse’s 74 gun ship of the line, Les Droits de L’Homme, and ran her into the surf off Hodierne Bay.

As we have said before-- here is to them all, the brave, the frightened, the lucky, and the ones who were not so lucky. I raise my glass to every one of them!

(I think that Admiral P would not mind such sentiment from a sailors wife.)

Yes that is definitely an account that was written to be read! It's stirring stuff isn't it? It's also completely wrong in several places :} Locker is actually remembered primarily as a watercolourist rather than as a writer now.
