Pompey

Pictures of Pompey from last weekend! Hopefully I'll have a chance to write a wee report of the conference itself soon. In the meantime, here's some pictures of the old gal herself. As you can see, we were blessed with glorious weather!

Nice pictures! Thank you for sharing them with us. The pub in Portsmouth Point is where I took my supper on my visit 3 years ago. Your photos made me want to visit England again...

Lead photo of Victory shows the fullness of a first rate's hull very well. I seem to remember walking past the Dolphin when I was there in the 80s.

I think the lot of us were headed somewhere else... someplace that somebody had heard of and had convinced everyone that we should go there. It was a long time ago, and my memory isn't what it was. At least I do seem to recollect seeing the place.

I imagine groups of young sailors still pass it on their way to something else Dave - more likely a club or bar in gunwharf quay which is full of life and glamourous young men and women.
its to us history loving middle aged sorts - speaking for myself anyway - that the fact that this and other inns of like age were where one can imagine that Horatio Archie et al might have drunk just becaues they were there at the time!

it overlooks the cathedral churchyard as seen in anteros_lmc photo in this post and we do know that Captain Mullon of the Cleopatre
was buried there, his funeral paid for and attended by Pellew and his fellow officers, so I think it is highly likely that they went there for post funeral refreshment ...

well its kind of good to be able to be that close

Bartholomew assures me he's only hanging about for the dry roasted nuts.

He was hiccuping - though it might have been an allergy to the lillies on the bar next to him ...

It certainly does! It's a fascinating town. So many styles of architecture and remnants of its maritime past.
