"He seems to be enjoying himself, sir," said Bush

Well!! The deck shower. What can I say?

If they'd filmed it as it's written in the book they'd never have got that series below the watershed!

As black_hound put it so eloquently:

CSF = fangirl

ETA: And another thing...this scene also features Hornblower saying "Avast, there!" I thought nobody ever said "avast there", not ever!

quotes, hornblower, cs forester, book: lieutenant hornblower

I couldn't believe it when I was told that scene was taken from the books, I just assumed it was ITV saying, "We need to attract the female 16-34 demographic...any chance you could put one of them in the nude? Not Robert Lindsay though."

Yeah me too! I just thought it was gratuitous. Not that I was complaining right enough ;)

I suppose it's too much to hope that they shot various takes of that scene with ummm, other lieutenants, before deciding on the final cut and that the rushes might just turn up one day...?

I live in eternal hope there will one day be a special edition boxset, with commentaries and deleted scenes of Horatio and Archie showering together, washing each others, erm, backs...while poor Paul McGann says in the commentary, "It was at this point I wondered what the hell my agent had signed me up for, I knew I should have been suspicious about something called 'Hornblower'.

Steady on there! *fans self frantically*

McGann says in the commentary
Of course the commentary continues. "As an actor of my calibre I realised that if I was to fully inhabit the character of Mr Bush there was only one way to really get into character. Artistic integrity is everything..... More over boys, room for one more?!"

I'd completely forgotten that scene was in the book until I was re-reading LtH this year. And then I completely understood why everyone talked about CSF being a fangirl. :D

Too right! And it's even more gratuitous in the book than in the movie :)

Isn't it great? It's the perfect excuse for every dirty and/or slashy piece of fanfiction. I mean, what can we do, if the Master sets such an example!?

Exactly! Who could hold a candle to CSF for such outrageous slashiness!

Hornblower twirled round and round under the stinging impact, his face screwed
up in painful ecstasy.

I may as well give up trying to write slash right here and now!

Giggling so hard right now. I believe you've just made my day with that quote.

Oh, but CSF never wrote Archie/Horatio. Therefore, you can't give up writing slash, for you are following in the Master's footsteps in the best possible way! :D
