Ahoy Admiral!

I've already written a couple of post about the Cochrane lectures we went to at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh last Saturday, but what I haven't mentioned is the event we missed the following day. On Sunday the Museum had a special navy themed family day called Ahoy Admiral! The blurb on the flier reads as follows:

Join us for an afternoon of free naval-themed activities to celebrate the life of Admiral Cochrane and explore how sea faring and the Royal Navy have changed since his time. Take the Bends and Hitches knot challenge, play a game of navigation, learn how to signal with lights and flags and make a beautiful old-fashioned sea map to take home. With the Royal Navy, Sea Cadets and the Royal Marine Band all joining in it's a busy afternoon full of demonstrations and activities to suit all ages*.

The day kicked off with a drill display by the Sea Cadets followed by a screening of Master and Commander and rounding off with a performance by the Royal Marine Band. I am seriously beginning to suspect that the NMS is staffed entirely by AoS fangirls and boys!

Alas we couldn't go as MiL was coming to visit that day *weeps* :'( However the Museum have now posted some picture of the event on their facebook page here and I've filched a few so you can enjoy them!
