Sir Arthur Hill, at home

So. After a crazy week I took some long over due time in lieu and bunked off work this afternoon for a couple of hours to nosey around Pollock House where they are currently filming Garrow's Law. As with most film sets there wasn't a huge amount to see other than lots of trucks and various wired up blokes hanging around large piles of cables and lighting equipment. However I did get to see one or two fine gentlemen in breeches too :)

All the filming appeared to be taking place inside the house rather than in the grounds and stable courtyard, which were used extensively for outdoor scenes in the last series. Although the National Trust for Scotland kept both the house and the grounds open to the public, the rooms being used for filming were understandably closed. When I got there the small cast had stopped for lunch and various blokes in breeches, including a very fine footman in gorgeous red livery and powdered wig, were milling around the catering truck. Before Joyful Molly anyone gets too excited I didn't see Mr Andrew Buchan, although now I look at the pic below, which I snapped from miles away, I wonder if that's him in the centre?

However I definitely did see Mr Rupert Graves queuing for his lunch. Sadly he was not in (or out of!) his breeches and I can tell you he looks every bit as stern in real life as Sir Arthur Hill does on screen. Apart from the above, I didn't take any pictures of the munching cast because I thought it would be rude to intrude on their lunch.

I also went for a wonder around the house where they were setting up lights to film in one of the drawing rooms. Earlier in the day they had been filming in Pollock House's beautiful library and it was still scattered with props, mostly low round tables, silver plate and decanters so I am guessing they were filming some kind of club scene? (Again no pics, as photography is nor allowed in NTS properties. Sorry.) On the way out of the house I ran into a rather smart chap in a lovely buff coloured coat and breeches and a more elderly gentleman all in black with a collar length grey wig and splendid tricorne hat. I sat and read on the lawn in front of the house, where there were lights set up, in the hope that they might film some outdoor scenes, but I eventually came to the conclusion that the lights were being used to illuminate scenes being filmed inside in the drawing room.

So there you have it. Not the most exciting of set reports but I did my best!

PS while nosing round the china cabinets in the study I spotted a lovely rummer glass engraved to commemorate the battle of Trafalgar and the death of Nelson which the catalogue said dated from 1806.
