The Antikythera Mechanism

Best BPAL review ever: The Antikythera Mechanism. Bronze gears spin inside a polished wooden case, and an entire universe dances within. Teakwood, oak, black vanilla, and tobacco.

And I tell you, the scent is worth the review. I'm happy with all of the Steamworks scents I've tried so far. Aelopile is citrus + amber. The Obsidian Widow is dark and ( Read more... )

I love how much stuff is in those short paragraphs: lots of hints about who they are and what their pasts are. That's the fun of it, for me. Tiny tells.

Yeah, that's the driving force of the story: he's packing up one life to start another. This is always a nice turbulent moment to explore character!

Love the details in the fragment of your story.

I'd heard about the 'ancient clock' before, but never bothered looking it up. It's fascinating stuff, especially the level of technology that now allows us to see the level of technology we once had but lost. Thanks for the link.

And thanks for the review of the perfume. I've belatedly realised that I can spend my accrued PayPal funds on BPAL, and I'm going to do so as soon as I can wrap my head round their imp ordering system. I was looking for tobacco based scents the other day. I specifically wanted Tobacco and Gin (or juniper) actually, but this is a good candidate. Do you have a large perfume wardrobe?

I have an embarrassing amount of BPAL through the gradual collection of free samples plus some wanton spending. (Whenever I've needed retail therapy for the last two years, I've done BPAL instead of gadgets or clothes.) Anyway. Tobacco scents. Juniper BPALs. (Tintagel is pretty cool.) You can see a few of my reviews scattered through those.
