I find... well, I find it's quite possible to enjoy stories with somebody else's kinks in evidence. If the kink works for them, and they're writing in an evocative way (not just laundry-listing things, which is often sufficient to push buttons for people really into something), then it usually works for me too. Without much reference to what I'd do in real life. Emotion and sensation in the characters! Take Sofy's Les Amours Défendus, which is Daddy!kink. Very much not my thing. But it turns out to be Giles's and Xander's, and when they get going the whole story ignites and melts my monitor. Because it's hot for them.

Though there are some things that work for other people that are just never going to work for me. Those just won't show up and I'll quietly hit the back button when I encounter them.

I can see Giles subbing for a few very strong people. Jenny and Buffy, for instance. Just about anyone else we saw on Buffy? I'd need to be convinced.

I too loved seeing Giles use the Watcher-Slayer relationship as the foundation of his desire, or kink. OTOH, I don't think this is an expected result for other Watchers, what with the fear or providing a father figure role model (mind you a very distant father figure, one who could stand by and see his daughter die). Also, it's most definitely unlikely that any Watcher would submit to his/her Slayer, considering that the Slayers have always been seen as obedient tools. So trust Giles to mine the other end of the vein to uncover treasure.

Oh, yes, before I forget: hot hot hot hot - scorching hot!
