You really convey Jack's compassion and thoughtfulness.

Also it is great to see you having such a firm handle on POV these days, and how you are really starting to explore the benefits. It's a pleasure to watch your writing improve in leaps and bounds over the months.

Thanks! It's something I've really been working on, so thanks also for that.

I love your version of early Torchwood. If they never get around to addressing those days again, I'm mentally including your version as canon.

Where did you get the security firm name from? The second time you mentioned it my Japanese came back to me, and I had to laugh.

Thank you for catching that...and it's a joke!

Kuroshiro is the name of the current that is Japan's version of the Gulf Stream. It means "Blackwater" in Japanese.

Oh, um. I hate to do this, but I do it with love: kuroshiro means "black white;" Kuroshio is the Black Current off Japan. At least, that's what my dictionary says.

Oh, wow.

Um. A slightly more coherent comment? Oh, WOW!

Jack is a wonderful mixture of bastard and kindness here. He's kind, but his kindness also buys her loyalty in a way that UNIT's threats never would. On the other hand, UNIT is still there, playing bad cop to his good cop. I've always thought that Tosh was just a little afraid of Jack still, but also that she depends on his approval just as much as Ianto does.

FWIW, I left Jack's intentions ambiguous on purpose. Since this is told entirely from Tosh's POV, we have no idea whether he's really being that much of a manipulative bastard, or whether he's so excited at having a prospect of her caliber that he can barely contain himself. Most likely it's somewhere in between.

Their relationship in canon is way complex and subtle, and Fragments really shines the light on that.

Thanks.

I may post a deleted scene from this which explores the Jack/Suzie dynamic a bit more--very fun to write.
