People like this kid don't like to think of possibility of hardships until they experience it themselves, she thinks. Most people who know only peace time care little for things beyond their own well-being. That's why they like living in golden cages. And even when their golden cages have turned into a glass cage full of viruses, do they even realize?

She is an Innovator, she thinks. It is her purpose to guide people, including people like him. But what does she need to do, when she can't wield words the way Ribbons Almark could, to persuade and direct humans? Her reply to Jesse comes curtly. Somewhere inside, she berates her inexperience in diplomacy, for losing the kind persona she intended to keep up ever since her arrival in Ceriu. ]

If you had involved yourself in things other than leisure activities, maybe you would know.

"For you". [ Yes, how typical. ] We here are short on help and supplies, there are mutants out there, and the virus is killing this civilization day by day. Killing yours and mine too, provided we are not being massively deceived. If you are not helping with trying to make things better, then yes, I believe it can be considered leisure activities.

Look... I can understand the need for festivities. But consider too what other people are doing while you send out your vague calls in the public network.

[there's a lot Jesse could say here to defend himself -- he's a singer, he's eighteen, he doesn't know what else he can do to help besides provide some relief for everybody from their depressing lives for a little while. but he's never been one to complain about the hand he's been dealt; he's Jesse St. James, infallible and perfect, he never struggles with anything. and his reputation is still, even here -- especially here -- something that he clings to.

plus most of the reason he did this is because he wants relief from his own depressing life in particular. and he was bored. these are all things people do not need to know.]

That's something normal people would see as unhealthy, but Anew had never lived anywhere in which not everyone is some kind of an employee, and no one normal would have ever ended up in Celestial Being. However, she too wants to keep up an image. Being an Innovator. Being a guide. Being perfect. Seeing things in a bigger picture than humans. It's bad enough, she thought, that she seems so prone to acting in a fit of emotion. Then and now. She doesn't want to make it worse by prolonging any arguments with the kid. ]
