Hahaha. Yes, it's Noir Literature. It's a genius class, formed by a genius man (who i had before for Angelheaded Hipsters and the Beat Generation). It focuses on stuff like Philip K Dick, Jim Thompson, Christa Faust, etc. We've read some Hemingway and a few other short stories from the 30s/40s.
We watched Out of the Past with Robert Mitchum the other day and man, the guy is cool. Noir is the shit.

I love noir. Howard Hawks + Raymond Chandler + Philip Marlow + Humphrey Bogart + Lauren Bacall = perfection, even if the plot is incomprehensible.
And then anything with Edward G. Robinson.
And then there's Veronica Fucking Mars.
