This is hands down the best character study I've ever read of Kurata. You've done a magnificent job of portraying the awkwardness of being older than one feels. You've provided details of Kurata's life and attitudes that feel completely plausible. I find myself feeling a sympathy for the character that I never have before, and that, I would say, is a sure sign of an excellent fic. Thank you so much for sharing it.
thank you very much! *blushes* glad you liked it! and very glad to shine some insight into kurata. i have such love for him, so that's especially gratifying.
what a wonderful imagining of kurata! he's an intriguing character because he's so bold and open, whereas many of the other go players seem to try to keep their cards (stones, haha) close to their chests. you mentioned ogata - i'd love to see you write a story about a game between kurata and ogata for the sheer contrast.
you must have thought deeply about kurata since you worked in so many details about him, like how he's conscious of the fact that the store's crowded and his body's large, or how he thinks analyzing a game doesn't do much good.
the contrast between kurata and his old schoolmate is brilliantly executed. the way she seems to... admire his childish exuberance, and that he's living his dreams the way she can't. and how he doesn't quite realize how he's gotten older, because he's just not self-aware in some aspects.
yesyes. i realize upon writing this that he's just like hikaru, but more solitary, and older, of course. ^_~ eheh, kurata v. ogata, huh? well, never know...
i really love kurata's character, though, so i was really glad to explore his character a bit. glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for your thoughtful comments!
