I appreciate the details you put into this. Also, must have taken you some time for research. There should definitely be more Hein era HnG fics.
One question: is there a reason the ladies are willing to be face to face with Sai, and not be behind a screen? I'm pretty sure the women you mentioned are not part of Sai's immediate family. Is it because Sai is not of age yet?
Thank you very much! I have to admit, this was new for me--I'm glad it went over well. As for the women, perhaps it has to do with Sai being of age. perhaps it has to do with the author not being familiar enough with the Heian era. >_< Thank you for the heads-up.
Something fishy about all this... ;-DsarasusaSeptember 25 2007, 02:43:36 UTC
What a neat look at what Sai's life might have been like before his fall from grace... and yay, there's a flute!cameo!
Here are *my* guesses:
Tancho: Touya Kouyo Taisho sanke: Touya Akira Black-on-gold ogon: Shindou Hikaru White ogon: Ogata Seiji [a former incarnation as a fish would certainly explain some of his fascination with marine life!] Kohaku: Was the hardest to figure out. I'm guessing Isumi Shinichirou, based on rumors I've heard about a match he has later than I've read so far... Bekko: Kuwabara-Honinbou
Though I'm sure corbeaun is right about proper Heian-era etiquette, within the limits of the Hikaru no Go world it's canonical for Sai to have played and conversed face-to-face with the ladies of the court. I remember reading somewhere that there were anachronistic goof-ups along those lines in the manga/anime art.

*laughs* You have the fish characters all correct. I hope this didn't spoil you for anything. As for the Heian stuff, it was indeed canon for Sai to face them without a screen, but I didn't want to blame canon when this is an AU/crossover round. (So very glad that I don't absolutely fail at fic though!)

But the image of Sai sitting besides a formal koi pond is really gorgeous and i hadn't tried that one on before.
