No, not for the first game. And not exactly for the second game either. (I would say more except that the more I comment the more I feel like I'm giving myself away)
Hiya! That was me who answered anonymously before.
No, Touya wasn't playing with his eyes shut for the first game. Sorry if you got that impression! Was there a specific line that made you think that?
The game with Shindou isn't necessarily going to be played with eyes shut either. Maybe just to start with. Or maybe they'll play blind and not use the board, just say the moves aloud. I obviously haven't thought this through much. -_-
"It was...a long time ago. I knew someone who couldn't place the stones himself."
"Was he blind?"
"No. Not him."
Oh. God, you make me ache so much.
The reason I stay interested in Hikago fandom is for these kinds of stories, the ones that probe (even sideways) the pain that Hikaru feels at Sai's loss. Because in the end, your fic is NOT about Akira at all for me. The entire fic, the OC and Akira's thoughts, ALL of it, is simply set up for that single moment of Hikaru's pain.
Thank you for your kind comments. :) Yes, I think the reason I continue to write HnG is also because of Hikaru's pain. It's the pain of death, and it's something I struggle to understand in real life.
Whenever I write about Touya it always seems to come back to Hikaru, even if I don't mean for it to start that way. Touya is obsessed with the boy, after all. :)
Thank you! I love the idea of placing stones for someone else...it fits in so nicely with HnG's themes of hands and passing things on to the next generation and I'm rambling now. :)

This was pretty interesting, I think it was insightful for Touya.
